How It Began - Association of Buchan Crafters (ABC )
In the latter part of 1994 a Project Leader of the Central Buchan Project through various contacts and approaches came to realise that there was a need for a Craft Association in the area. Several meetings with Crafters were inaugurated, discussions held and these culminated in the Association of Buchan Crafters being constituted formally on 1st June 1995. It was recognised that Crafters were beavering away at home, workshops or Garages using their creative abilities to make some fantastic products but had no ready outlet to sell their finished goods. The A B C was founded to address such issues
Our main aims were and still are:
- To promote crafts within the area
- To promote sales and improve sales outlets
- To support our members
- To distribute information to members
- To hold a minimum of 4 craft fairs per year - 9 in 2009
From humble beginings success blossomed and the fun, enjoyment and camaraderie experienced them still endures today. There were a few mishaps along the way -
The Marquee at Longhaven that nearly blew away.
The virtual river cascading through the centre of the tent at Aikey Brae.
The incessant rain at the pipe band contest in Aden Park where we took pity on the Strawberry seller and invited him into the tent. He was so pleased he gave all the Crafters a punnet of fresh Strawberries, the day may have been a washout but those Strawberries...mmmmmmmmmmm
